Benson Wong has been engaging in jewelry design for 30 years. He established Belford Jewellery in 1977. Apart from offering luxury diamond jewelry, Belford also creates an array of elegant jewelry set with jadeite, South Sea pearls, serving the needs for different occasions. With continuous business expansion, Belford has not only been a prominent local retailer, but also a promising wholesale export jeweler with a presence in Japan, South East Asia, China, the Middle East, Europe, Russia, the USA, South America and Australia.
Over the past 30 years, Belford has been committed to original design. Its professional and unique creations with exquisite craftsmanship are highly appreciated by customers. Mr. Wong studied fashion design in the UK. After gaining a couple of years of work experience, he returned to Hong Kong. He said, “Actually I love design but never think about joining this industry. At first, I only designed some jewels from time to time for my brothers who ran diamond wholesale trading business. Such pieces gave indelible impressions to many friends, and also provided encouragement for building our own brand of jewelry. For this coincidence, I decided to devote myself to jewelry design.” This simple concept marks a turning point in his career.
Mr. Wong’s dedication to jewelry design, together with his outstanding design team, has gained him a good reputation from buyers over the years. Jewelry collections are extensive, including Enchanting, Corarosa, Cross, Decora, Art Deco, Hexagon, Jade, Pandora, Rose and Semitaire. From 1987 to 2005 Belford won numerous awards in design competitions including “Buyers’ Favorite Jewelry Design Competition” and “Gold Trend Jewellery Design Competition” as the top three prize winners. He said, “I participated in many competitions when I was young to test my strength and gain experience. Now, I also encourage my staff to join jewelry design competitions that will broaden their perspectives.”
So, what inspires Mr. Wong’s excellent design? He said, “My design all derives from life. Even a plant, a building or design magazines can inspire me. I use my fashion design technique to apply on designing a limited piece of jewel to express my unique creativity.” In addition, he always works earnestly and closely with creative staff by means of extensive interaction from product concept to product launch on the market.
For future development, Mr. Wong reiterated, “Belford is growing and expanding with the aim of producing high-quality jewelry for gaining customer satisfaction. Every jewel is a unique work of art that can be worn and appreciated. Of course, customer recognition and appreciation give us high degree of satisfaction and achievement. Currently Belford is expanding as well as enhancing the overall shop outlook and image. Our Central and Macau shops underwent a complete renovation to match the overall new look and the shop image, thus consolidating our brand.”
